01/02/2023 - Enregistrement n° 52 - 36:10 : Hunting - Typos and fonts used in the book

(Q - Jeska: 2 questions for you. Very quickly, the first concerns the latest edition of the book that I acquired and several of us recently discussed on the forum about the typography of the book, particularly in the enigma where there are the relative atomic masses and in relation to the character which very closely resembles 1s instead of I. And so, we asked ourselves the question if it was simply a computer type problem, printing, there is software, sometimes OCR, which does the capture and there can often be problems with “un”, I and l and we were asking ourselves this question and we wanted to submit this question to you .)

MB: so in relation to this question, from your side, are these heavily determining elements?

(Q – Jeska: personally I don't have the impression that we have other versions, there are other people who have versions which seem to make us think that it is simply a typographical error, but it could still have one and therefore, from the moment where we still have a little of these 2 offsets and it is the latest version, we could logically to say that well this is the most accomplished version, the cleanest, the truest therefore.)

MB: so okay, I understand the question. Well in fact, there is no more accomplished, less accomplished version, there is the original version which has not changed so I am going to look at it, I saw these messages recently, I am going to look exactly what it is about in order to possibly shed light on it, but it was not me who prepared all the layout, the composition of the books so I have to recheck it, a priori it had been reread and considered compliant but I have to see. Afterwards, it may be that depending on the fonts used, confusion is possible between different characters, I don't know.
